Hot Stone Massage

Stone therapy uses both hot and cold stones incorporated with massage techniques in order to bring about a deep feeling of relaxation and well being. Heated volcanic stones are used on key acupressure sights and the heat relaxes the muscle allowing for a much deeper massage.

Heated stones can also be placed on the body’s chakras, or energy points, working with the body’s natural energy to create a balance both physically and mentally.

The Stones: Basalt is a dark heavy lava that is widespread the world over, volcanic stones that are formed of different textures and mineralogy. The smooth polished stones are well known for their heat or cold retention properties making them the perfect choice for stone therapy.

The Massage Treatment: The stones are heated in water to a regulated temperature, some stones are wrapped in towels and placed on specific chakras along the body to align and re-balance the body’s natural energy flow, whilst other stones are used by the therapist to perform the massage. Massaging with these smooth flat stones will ease muscle tension and revitalise the muscle tissue by increasing blood circulation.

During the massage the client’s body temperature, heart rate and breathing rate may rise and fall. This is not harmful and is merely the result of the rapid exchange of oxygen and blood in the body. However it is important to check first with your therapist that it is a suitable and safe treatment for you.

Hot Stone Massage is not appropriate if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, or are on medication that thins the blood, skin conditions that may be aggravated by moisture or heat. All auto Immune dysfunctions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, epilepsy, heart disease. You should avoid if you are pregnant or have sunburn.
